St Bede C of E Primary Academy

School Meals, Packed Lunches  & Snack

St. Bede C of E Primary Academy operates a staggered lunchtime.

If your child has a school meal they have a choice of menu, which includes a vegetarian option.  The standard menu features:

  • Choice of main course including a vegetarian option
  • A selection of fresh vegetables and/or salad to accompany any main course
  • Dessert

Please note: Menus may be subject to change on the day, due to certain items being unavailable.

Fresh water is available throughout lunch and all meals are eaten in the dining hall.

The cost of a school meal (for children in Years 3 to 6) is £12.75 per week, unless children are entitled to income related free school meals.  We are happy to receive payment in advance for the week, month, half term or term.  This should be paid using the My Child at School (MCAS) App.

Children in Reception to Year 2 automatically receive a free school meal under the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.

It is important that you notify the Finance team of any changes to your child's meal option to avoid any unnecessary dinner money debt reminders.  Our Finance team can be contacted via telephone on 01204 328994 option 3 or email finance@stbedeacademy.org.  Any changes for meal options are to be given one week in advance.

PACKED LUNCHES

If your child brings a Packed Lunch, this should be in a secure, named container.  A drink should be provided in a non breakable container.  Packed lunches are eaten in the main dining hall and we ask parents not to include any foods containing nut products or products ‘which may contain nuts’, sweets, chocolate or fizzy drinks.  Instead, we encourage lots of fruit, vegetables and water.  Please see below for examples of a healthy packed lunch.

Children on Packed Lunches are to take all their uneaten food and rubbish home.  This is so parents/carers know what their child has eaten for their lunch and can then plan what to put in lunch boxes in future, which should save money for families and also help to reduce food waste.  Please consider sending a spare sandwich bag in your child’s lunch box for rubbish to be placed in, to prevent it spoiling any uneaten food, or the lunchbox.

Please contact the school office if you have any queries regarding school lunchtime arrangements

SNACK

Children can bring a healthy snack into school and below are some examples.  All children from Nursery to Year 2 receive a free piece of fruit/vegetable each day.  Please note our snack is currently under review.
